Dark & Twisted by Justin Rick – Review.

This beer was given to us by Justin at Brooklyn Brewery. It was to be a draft-only beer exclusively available at the Brooklyn Brewery tasting room, but I guess some of it must have been accidentally bottled 😉 A Salted Chocolate Stout inspired by chocolate covered pretzels. It’s a beer from the Worshipful Company of Brewers program. Read more about it at the Brooklyn Brewery Blog.

Appearance: Dark and not too thick, it has some beautiful gold brown color to it when poured in sunlight.

Aroma: Chocolate, roasted coffee and a touch of cola.

Taste: At first there’s a lot of coffee, and then the chocolate comes through together with a malty finish. It also has some slight hoppy bitterness towards the end. The taste is very similar to a British porter if you would have added a nice piece of chocolate to it.

Mouthfeel: Very pleasant. Mid bodied that fits perfect for this summer day.

Overall: I’m glad I waited to drink this beer. Drinking a stout during the winter feels a bit expected. Instead, I had this one on a 80 degree warm rooftop in Brooklyn Heights on July 4th. And do you know what? I think Justin would 100% approve of his beer being consumed this way.
